The site of the battle of "Mount Badon" or "Mount Badonicus", where King Arthur and his knights ended their campaign of twelve battles, and finally defeated the invading Saxons. Now known as Liddington Castle, the original earthworks are bronze age, occupied through to the iron age and then reoccupied during the Roman period.

  • Nice video, but know one can be certain as to where the battle was. This is one of the options, and a good one, but not a proven one.

  • Is that really Badon Hill? I thought archaeologists didn't know for sure where it was.

  • @starkersboy Where is Liddington? I have read many times that the battle sight was unknown. Thanks!

  • Thank you, a very interesting video. Forgive my ignorance Graeme. This is clearly a very evocative site, but why do you favour it as the location of Badon? I am not familiar with the arguments pro and con.

  • @starkersboy I think that your version of the Siege and Battle of Mount Badon is correct - it was a siege and relief action clearly culminating in a single uphill charge by Arthur that carried right through the enemy. This I believe is the only correct reading of the sources. I am certain the battle occurred at Bath and not Liddington Castle although that is a much harder argument to resolve.

  • @starkersboy Hi, first i have heard about a pagan cemetery. Will have to take a look next time i visit. Is it marked on the OS map? Anyway, thanks for the information and i hope you enjoyed the video...

  • HI Graeme. I see that in common with many of my videos, YouTube has taken away the 480p HQ setting, of yours too, degrading the visual quality. So much for "good presentation" eh? I'm looking for another site where videos stay at the maximum quality all the time.

    Mike.

  • Yes it is!

  • Very nice...magic land!
