AMSA-Philippines National Medical Students Conference 2011

The National Medical Students' Conference is an annual gathering of medical students in the Philippines. Organized by the Asian Medical Students' Association (AMSA)-Philippines, NMSC provides medical students a venue to interact with and learn from each other outside the confines of the classroom, laboratory, and hospital. This year's conference will be the first in three years, expected to be participated in by 300 medical students from all over the country.

The theme of the conference is "Making the Five-Star Filipino Physician." In this year's two-day conference, we aim to explore the diverse ways on how we, future physicians, can become holistic and relevant doctors for the Filipinos -- as clinicians, teachers, researchers, managers, and social mobilizers. In the conference, participants will engage in healthy and dynamic discussions about the field of medicine in the Philippines as well as meet successful and inspiring models from different sectors of the Philippine health system.

By the end of the National Medical Students' Conference 2011, participants should be able to:
 Gain a clear understanding and appreciation of the 'five-star physician' concept
 Acquire basic knowledge and experience in the different facets of a 'five-star physician' -- health care provider, teacher, researcher, manager and social mobilizer -- in the Philippine context
 Contribute in the envisioning of the 'five-star' Filipino physician of the future

Program Overview
A wonderful array of activities have been prepared for this year's conference:
• An opening ceremony, including a keynote speech from the Secretary of Health
• Plenary lectures, panels, and small group discussions tackling the five "stars" -- as a health care provider, teacher, researcher, manager, and social mobilizer
• A research competition, both oral and poster presentations
• Small workshops on interesting topics and newly emerging fields of medicine
• A social program on the night of Day 1
• AMSA-Philippines organizational meetings
• A closing keynote speech and awards ceremony
