how come, everytime i click on the text tool it freezes the application? Is there anything i could change to keep it from freezing (not responding)

For some reason I cant drag and drop the image that I chose onto the blank canvas. I un-docked the image and selected the move tool, and held down shift, but it wont let me drag and drop the image. Anyone have any Ideas?
