  • The fact that white musicans, are in his band shows, how much respect, they had for Louis Armstrong. remember, this is 1933.

  • It was not uncommon to see interracial jazz bands in the 1930's. Oh, the band members

in the video are all black...look again

  • Actually it was very rare to see interracial bands preform LIVE in the early 30's. The mid-late 30's was another story of course. All of these musicians are European African.

  • All of these musicians are European. I cant remember from where though. You are absolutley right however. Most people tend to forget that parts of Europe were also racist during this time. I think every musician of every race had respect for him. Not only that but the fact that they tried to imitate him was even a greater sign of respect.

  • What makes you think Louie didn't travel with his own band? P.S. I highly doubt he could find a band of black Eurpeans to play with him . If you have ther proof that they are from Europe then get back.

  • If you find the CD of this it says on that as well as some website that i cant find. Ill let you know when i find it.

  • I am a big fan of Louis, but my favourite version of this song is Artie Shaw's.

  • @skyiscrying53 The drummer and double-bass player are white?

  • @arnefogel --I'm not sure he was on the lamb; perhaps he was on the goat or on the camel. Surely you meant to type "on the lam?"

  • Hi, I can tell you that the guy just to the left of Louis playing the sax and wearing

glasses was called Henry Tyree from London , England (then Manchester)

How do I know this?? He was my Grandad :-)

    Regards

    Paul Tyree
