In 1959, Cannon led #1 LSU to a victory over #3 Ole Miss. The Tigers were trailing 3-0 when Cannon returned a punt 89 yards for a TD, breaking seven tackles. It was the only TD of the game, resulting in a 7-3 victory for LSU in Tiger Stadium. That year, Cannon won the Heisman Trophy and was again voted the UPI College Football Player of the Year|UPI Player of the Year.

  • Billy Cannon, A.K.A Jesus

  • @1mrmoose dude imma auburn fan and i know for a fact that the game was a game of what if. Bama beat themselves. and LSU took advatage. Those field goals was one of the MAIN reasons why bama lost. if you really think you are gonna wipe bama from the title game youre an idiot. LSU fans said we stopped trent richardson when he had over 170 yards on the #2 defense in the nation smh get out of here with that bullshit

  • @44032-Personally, I don't see where Alabama deserves another shot at LSU. LSU beat Alabama the 1st time fair and square. They really belly ached that the referees stole that game, because of the interception on the 1 yard line. They think that they are going to get sweet revenge this time. I just hope LSU can beat them again and make those folks shut up.

  • Ole Miss should have tackled him. Anyway, they got their revenge in the Sugar Bowl.

  • RUN BILLY RUN

  • They just had another "Golden Moment" tonight in a game much like this one but without the punt return. LSU 9 Alabama 6

  • Love to see video of 'the stop'.....'59 Tennessee-LSU....

  • What people don't mention about Cannon's return is that Jake Gibbs for Ole Miss punted on 3rd and 17. THIRD DOWN!!! Seriously. Man, College Football was different back then. Now every game's 51-50. NO FUCKING DEFENSE. 7-3 games are now the exception rather than the norm. Back then, the majority of QBs called their own plays. Now, the majority of QBs can't even call their own audibles and protections. OU is the worst when it comes to this, I swear to fucking god.

  • @jqb4 Off course not, can't win em all. Though we did win the National Championship the year before.... :O)

  • No one ever talks about how Ole Miss and LSU met up in the Sugar Bowl later that same season and Ole Miss beat the Tigers 21 to 0
