Instead of proudly showcasing what makes us Canadian, Harpers Conservatives have shamefully chosen to delete equal rights, including marriage, for gays and lesbians from the new citizenship guide.

Olivia Chow stood up in Question Period to demand the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration apologize, and immediately restore the references to gay rights in the guide.

  • My boyfriend came to Canada in 2000 when he was 15 - he didn't know that such a thing as being GAY could ever be accepted anywhere in the world! It is an undeniable fact that most countries in the world have either homophobia prevalent in their cultures or even built into their laws.

Given that Canada is in the small minority of countries that treat gays as equal citizens, newcomers need to know that gay people are equal citizens in CANADA.

  • Well said, Ms. Chow. Thank you for taking a stance against this shameless atrocity.

  • I'm not an NDP supporter, but I'll enjoy any solid attempt to take Kenney down a notch or two.

  • GO, Olivia! Good for you. Kenney must GO!
