Iris checks in with Dr. Beckett at the hospital. They are short staffed with Jamie being out on suspension, and Beckett vents to Iris about the scramble to cover Jamie's caseload, and the hits that discipline and morale have taken. Beckett tells Iris that not everyone blames Kelsey, but when she cried discrimination, it made it look like Beckett didn't deserve the job every bit as much as she did because she had a point to me, even though he DID deserve the job every bit as much as she did. Beckett agrees to give a statement of support if Iris goes to the board and attempts to have Jamie reinstated. Beckett has Tommy's latest test results, and when Hank arrives, Beckett goes over them with Hank and Iris. It's hard to say how long Tommy will survive; all the doctors can do is try new medication and make him comfortable. Iris says that Tommy hasn't given up and neither should they. Look at how thrilled Tommy was to be at Dean's concert. Hank says Tommy never should have left the hospital. Beckett says Tommy's numbers are slightly better today, and there's always reason to hope, even in the most severe cases. Sometimes it can make the difference between giving up and going on. Beckett leaves then to examine Tommy. Hank tells Iris he doesn't really feel better, though; he keeps wanting to do more, like he's missing the one thing that will make this disease disappear. Iris tells Hank that he's done all that he can do, and he has to keep on doing it, and urges him not to start telling himself he's failing Tommy because he's not. Hank says that Tommy's going to die without having done so many things, and how is Hank supposed to help him with that? Iris replies that Hank should tell Tommy he loves him, although Tommy already knows that. That's helped all of them at one time or another. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
