Follow my on twitter @RogersCreations.
I have had many people send e-mails and comments to me asking how I create my kinetic typography videos. I thought that seeming as I have not made a personal video in a while I thought that I should make a tutorial in to show how its done. I have never made a screen captured tutorial so forgive me for the quality and layout I am sure that they will get better in the future.

You can request another tutorial or ask for advice by posting a comment below or on the youtube page. I hope that you enjoy it and I hope that it is helpful for you.

  • Great. Now how do you time it to the dialogue since AE doesn't have an audio track? Someone please explain!

  • @joejumps4fun You just import your audio like everything else and drag and drop it into the composition. To preview it with the video playing aswell press '0' on the numpad and to preview just the audio press '.' on the numpad.

  • Very interesting and informative tutorial. I learned some better ways of doing things here that will speed up my workflow. Thanks!

Two questions. First, why did you create the original text in Word then cut/paste into AI instead of creating it in AI to begin with? Second, for a longer audio track, would you create a separate AE composition for each phrase or sentence, then put all of the comps together? Thanks again.

  • @YoshBear Yes I just copied and pasted it in to AI but you can do it either way what ever you like. As for longer audio files it just depends on how fast your computer is. It will get to a point when it is faster to brake it up and animate a few different parts.

For my stephen fry video I did each letter as individualized compositions.

  • @RogersCreations wait at 1.50 u started to group the letters into words, YOU DIDN'T SHOW HOW YOU DID IT! HELP! please,...

  • @MissZenK please help T^T I need that for my exam...thanks

  • @RogersCreations

I use Mac lap-top, which without numpad at the side. Therefore, how can I press 'zero + one numpad' to render the audio file with the file?

  • when i click to add a key frame, i do exactly what you do, but it doesnt show that path you had when you dragged it. what do i do?

  • Trying to make sublayers into layers @4:15, but its not working. Why? what am i not doing or doing wrong?

  • i cant do the create outlines thing unless i select it witth the type tool and it wont let me select all of it, please help

  • Thanks for this, its a bit hard for me to understand but im getting there.

  • @RogersCreations Thank you so much Rogers! I'm still learning AE (unfortunately)

  • I saw the effects from Stephen Fry Kinetic Typography - Language

  • What if when the word rotate to the side?

  • @KumoriGem Try watching the Stephen Fry video, lol XD

  • Tip: hold command(mac) and drag the timeline indicator to preview both the video and audio

  • thankyou so much! best tutorial on Youtube!

  • thanks bro

  • @WyattDeS if you zoom more than 100% on view, it wont ever ever ever be crisp. If you up the scale though however, with continually rasterize, it should always be crisp.

  • hey when i was doing this, something screwed up along the way and when i zoom in on the text in after effects it looses its quality unbearably and when i use continually rastorize i simply wont change size or position from the original, what am i doing wrong?

  • Great video Roger.

I have one question for you....

When I import the layers from to AE, their duration is 00:00:03 (3 microseconds)

How do I make sure that they will come with a bigger duration?

    Thank you

  • This is great, but 'video' is annoying me. It should be 'videos'. /grammar nazi

  • Great tutorial! But are there any other programs that I don't need to pay for to do kinetic typography?
