The Global Food Crisis affects over one BILLION people world wide. One in six people go to sleep at night, starving. Not because they are too lazy to work or can't look after themselves, but because of us.
Our over-consumption and wastage of food forces the prices of basic food items to sky rocket. While we are living in an average income of $125 a day, the poor are struggling to survive on a mere $1.25 a day.
20% of our income is spent on food, 70% of their income is spent on food. What happens when the price of food doubles? We spend 40% of our income on food, but they can't spend 140% of their income because they simply do not have it. They can't afford to live.
They need our help. Instead of dreaming and imagining change, how about we actually DO something.
Participate in the 40 Hour Famine (www.worldvision.com.au/40hourfamine/) or donate online (www.worldvision.com.au/40HF/ProfilePage.aspx?preferredurl=jessicamarie). No matter how small, every donation counts.
Have heart.
