My wifes 2007 Camry is making excessive noise. I've been told by two mechanics that it is the alternator. That is where the noise seems to be coming from. Only problem is that the car has never died or been slow to start so it seems that it is working properly.

  • Amirpershad, the water pump was defective. Thankfully it was still under mileage for the powertrain warranty and Toyota replaced it free of charge.

  • What did it turn out to be? My 07 4 cyl camry is making the same noise. Checked alternator at auto zone and oriellys and both machines said alt bad. Plus battery light started flickering today..... gonna try to change it today if i can figure out how to loosen belt lol

  • I have an 09 4 cylinder that has started making this identical noise and Kenny Kent just qouted $425. for replacing the pump and the belt. 70K miles on the engine. Additionally, the tech said he had not encountered an idler pully failure on this model.

  • did you fixed it already? what is the problem?

  • water pump,i had the same prob at 25000 mi

  • might be the air compressor, the pulley?

  • hey its sounds like the bearing where the timing belts are. one or more is losse or defective.
