When it was time for America to celebrate it's bicentennial on July 4, 1976, it did so in many ways, including music. It was a time to try and heal the wounds left by the dreadful Vietnam War that, like the current war in Iraq, divides this country so bitterly between an out of control administration and the desires of most of its people. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were the perfect team to attempt the healing...and on July 4, 1976, sang a new bicentennial song before an enthused crowd of thousands at a stadium in Los Angeles. Watch closely as this catchy little song even gets the horse pulling Roy & Dale's carriage into the spirit as it, too, stands tall on its hind legs.

  • Wassup Johnharmizzie? I was also "picked" to attend this event. I was in the 9th grade at the time; and still remember the look on alot of people's faces when KC sang Shake Your Booty. Evel Kneivel being lowered in The Coliseum on his bike by helicopter will always be fresh in my mind. knoflaw1 at yahoo dot comm

  • The shots of the crowd always remind me of newsreel footage I've seen of Hitlers' Youth...only with a little more civil celebration on their minds!

  • This was at the Coliseum

  • Yes it was in L.A. A friend of mine said it reminded him of old footage of Hitler's Youth! Strange sense of humor.

  • This was a huge event at the L.A. Coliseium. I got picked (3 kids per LAUSD class) to go when I was in 3rd grade, I'm 41 now. It was a blast! Evel Kneivel, KC and the Sunshine Band, Mark Spitz, Jim Backus, Sandy Duncan, Robby Rist etc. plus the hugest Fireworks display I have seen to this day (I just saw one) The streets of Los Angeles were flooded with school busses, we got home passed our bedtimes. A very fond memory, but I don't remember Roy and Dale. Musta blocked it out.
