Dr. Marcus Eriksen and Joel Paschal depart from the Long Beach Aquarium in California for Hawaii on a raft of 15,000 plastic bottles in order to help call attention to the problem of plastic pollution in the oceans. Please, check out www.algalita.org for more info.

  • Is that a live animal they have on board with them? It looks like a rabbit or something that they are keeping in the airplane fuselage. I hope they know it is a major U.S. Customs violation to bring any live animal into the Hawaiian Island chain. That is how new diseases are introduced into their delicate ecosystem. These guys could face major Federal Prison time if they get caught!

  • They did NOT have any animals on board, don't worry

  • This is truly amazing. These people are wonderful people and are trying to act for the Earth, unlike some ignorant people. People who leave any idiotic comment about how this is "stupid" or anything negative about it seriously need help. Open your eyes, this is happening.

  • I hope people will start to finally realize what we're doing to the oceans. Y ISN'T ANY1 LISTENING! RECYCLE PPL!

  • hey:

You came JMIS last week. It was truly a remarkable assembly, the best one we've had all year. The delivery was fantastic and it touched all of us. Thank you so much for doing this and makeing us all realize that we need to change and for thinking of the children as the future. I promise to do my part in saving the ocean. And I will probably never eat a fish I caught again. Oh, and I'm from Vancouver BC too :)

  • You're a major idiot who can't use correct grammar. Why don't you go die, it'll benefit lots.

  • It's not a waste, it's recycling. It's a waste to stick it in a landfill like you probably do. And no, it's not killing any marine life. It's a raft, made out of plastic, give me one way it could be killing anything.

  • They MADE it!! Just read an article in my local newspaper they arrived in Honolulu "tanned, dirty and tired" on Wednesday, August 27. CONGRATS, guys! This is SO COOL!!

  • That's General Douche to you Emo boi!
