From the 'Light my Fire' album.
The Firebirds were a heavy psych/blues group that have been unknown to a lot of people, partly because no one knows all the musicians involved in producing the album. It was released in 1969 with Crown Records, a budget record label. It is known that Jerry Cole, who worked with such artists as the Byrds and the Beach Boys, helped in making the album, but the rest of the people involved are unknown.
Three songs from them (including this one) were also featured on a compilation album titled "An overdose of Heavy Psych." and featured various other psychedelic groups.
The Firebirds also went by the name "31 Flavors." For anyone that likes Hendrix like vocals and guitar, Iron Butterfly, and Blue Cheer, you will want to give them a listen.

  • I sure wished there was more information out there about this group--who they were, where they came from, who their influences were. They sure have me intrigued! The only thing I know for sure is that they were just a studio band, but they seemed to me to have the potential to be much more. What talent!

  • They get compared with Iron Butterfly, but they were MUCH heavier than Iron Butterfly. They were more a cross between Blue Cheer and Vanilla Fudge. "Vanilla Sludge", I call it

  • ..

  • Magister ludi, thats guitar riff, nihil obstat

  • This is some killer stuff here, never heard of this group before....

  • beautifully played guitar!
