Here's my friend Bob Armstrong playing St Louis Blues on a baritone ukulele that I just finished building. It's made out of wood native to, and harvested in California. Redwood top (recycled from our old farmhouse), CA walnut back, sides and neck (cut and milled locally by a friend's stepfather), mesquite (from a dead stump found in the Mojave by friends) and oak binding from a big tree that fell in Roseville. -- I'll be posting more videos of Bob playing this uke. I'm sorry for the poor video quality. If you like this and want more of better quality send me a message and my customer, the new owner of the uke, might lend it to us for another shoot.

  • He certainly does still draw comics. Great stuff, of course. He's the guy who did most of the cowboy scenes on the Martin guitar cowboy series. I guess they're not exactly comic books but related. He has a beautiful website. The Novelty Hut.

  • Hey, thanks for asking. I'm Keith Cary and Bob and I both live in Winters, CA. He and I've played in bands together for decades. I'm a repairman and instrument builder. This one went to a customer in Sacramento. It's the first baritone uke I've built, though I've played DGBE instruments since I was in high school. I based it on the outline of my Favilla, though this one has a 20" scale and light fan bracing, in addition to the (non) exotic woods. More vids to follow.

  • This is legendary "underground" cartoonist Robert Armstrong, isn't it?!? I absolutely love his work and I'm trying to find more of it!!!

This is a lovely tune, really put a smile on my face! Do you know if Mr. Armstrong still draws comics?

  • I love this!

  • Hello -- I'm Jeff a.k.a. Humble Uker and I do the baritone ukulele blog called Humble Baritonics. I would love to see Bob Armstrong play some more. I have seen him play with Sourdough Slim up in Sonora and I think also at Mike DaSilva's UkeMaker Shop. Mr. Armstrong also plays a saw. You don't really introduce yourself -- who are you and where do you build. I will post this video over on Humble Baritonics. Thanks

  • Sweet and Ragtime Funky! Very Nice! Thank You!

  • Love your baritone uke!

  • Wonderful! Congratulations ktommycary on building a fine instrument, and great job playing a classic Blues number, Bob!
