In front of the audience is a little pit that has TV monitors in it, and the audience higher up have TV monitors hanging on the ramparts. The cast, I'm not so sure about, but they can see it.

@bbrake The Monkees were not part of the British invaision. They were/are an American group that was formed to be basicly an American version of The Beatles on television. And yes, Michael Nesmith was a member of The Monkees.
