Showing the damage done to the coffee pot after flames erupted from the top of it one random evening. Thankfully we were home when it happened. Bunn was good enough to send a replacement quickly.

Recall information: http://www.bunn.com/retail/service/recall_10cup_brewer.html

If anyone needs the original, less compressed video, I can provide that as well.

  • What model was that? BT-10B? BTX-B? Was it under warranty at the time? My BTX-B just flamed out...not as bad as yours, though. TIA

  • @VehementSack - Pretty sure it was a BT-10B. I don't know about warranty, but it turned out there was a recall on the product. Call up Bunn, they will most likely take care of you, regardless of the timespan. They were really easy to work with and sent me a replacement almost immediately.

  • The issue was overheating wires coming in contact with the plastic top reservoir. there said fix for the recalled units was to put a heat shield between those wires and the top reservoir. I had one of the Bunn recalled brewers, they pretty much refurbished my brewer when I sent it in for the fix. It's still going strong 8 years later with my aunt. Couple questions for you, what model was your one that burned up? and how's your new one doing a year later?

  • @gusherb94 - Sorry I didn't write back sooner, life happened. I don't remember the exact model number, but it was one of the insulated carafe models. The ones they have now use a differently shaped carafe, so I'm sure they are a different model than mine was. My new pot is a regular glass carafe. it works OK, although I notice the heating of the water is much louder than the old model was.

  • @oldmick581 That was grounds to throw away the coffee maker. There was trouble brewing with the machine. If Bunn didn't address the problem they would be in hot water. I am in my element with coffee maker jokes. Being able to write puns does have its perks.

  • Hot Cross Bunn (s). LOL

  • @FyL777

Thanks. My model is not affected.

  • @Watcher3223

Yes, I can't include it in a comment, but I've added it to the Info box for this video.

  • @FyL777

    Ouch.

Maybe I ought to check mine.

Is the information available online at Bunn's website?

  • @Watcher3223 - Well, it wasn't from low water in the tank - I had used it twice that day, and the fire occurred about 5 minutes after making the second pot. Your initial guess of a malfunctioning thermostat is certainly possible.

I found out after the fact that a recall had been issued. The recall stated the hazard was: "The coffeemaker's plastic pour-in bowl and lid can melt or ignite due to an electrical failure, posing a burn and fire hazard to consumers."
