Stephen Schneider press event with Phelim McAleer

On December 10, 2009, Dr. Stephen Schneider held a press event at COP15 in Copenhagen, Denmark to launch his new book "Science as a Contact Sport". The question and answer period became heated as filmmaker Phelim McAleer took the floor. This post includes only the question and answer period of the event.

The climate model data was wrong no matter what way the climategate issue turns out, It predicts a warming of the earth which clearly isn't the case.There simply isn't enough energy coming from the sun to earth to create a run away green house effect. Our earth orbits in whats known as "The Goldilocks zone" not to hot & not to cold (simple), Venus has a run away green house effect, Mars has the opposite It's cold and lacks atmosphere, we sit between the two opposing planetary weather systems.

The sun has more than enough energy to sizzle our planet down to a bare, charred rock. It does not do so due to the protective elements of our magnetic field and atmosphere. Within the range of what is "normal" for this planet, it has experienced time periods much warmer and much colder than at present.

Oceansolutions does not advocate any particular policy. We filmed Dr. Schneider's event because it addressed our interest in the SCIENCE of climate change and the ocean. McAleer is asserting that Dr. Schneider shut him down and called in UN security. In reality, McAleer was given extensive time and a full response. Following his question, McAleer refused to pass on the microphone to other reporters despite knowing that each reporter was alloted one question each.

Twaddle! The McAleer edition, actually made Schneider look angrier than this version does. It also made it look as if he was forced to leave after asking that one question.

It certainly lessens the effect to see him still in the audience at the end of the conference, and being told that 'even he' is entitled to a free copy of the book.

BTW: I am a sceptic, McAleer is an opportunist.

Ocean - you are missing the point. Clearly McAleer was the only one at the event to question Man Made Global Warming. This is a serious issue that must be debated and it is not.

Global Warming theorists are not following the scientific process. They are trying to make the data fit their preconceived ideas behind closed doors.

Climategate should be the scandal of the century, yet it is being buried. The repercussions of this will be felt for decades in the scientific community.

@joecushley "scurrilous, grubby little hack." Yeah, that sums up McAleer quite well. His misrepresentations of Dr.Schneider are criminal. Dr. Schneider was a great man. I just heard him speak a while ago on a university channel. He was clear concise relevant fascinating, just a fabulous speaker. I was looking forward to more of his lectures. I am so sorry to hear that he has died.

Thank you ever so much for posting this. I had only seen highly edited versions of this confrontation and though it didn't look like much, the right wing dingbats point to this as proof of some vast conspiracy of climatologists. This shows the nastiness of McAleer and the dishonesty of the denier camp even more and I enjoyed seeing Dr. Schneider handing this wingnut his ass.

seems he answered the reporter to me and the reporter had mis quoted him in the past, so why give him anymore time, mcaleer is obviously quite agressive and not prepared to accept the reasons given...shouting solves nothing...seen it all before

This fat fool Phelim McAliar tries to hijack the Q & A in a preening, bullying style and gets escorted away perfectly justifiably. Watch the Nazi-style editing in his versions of his encounters with Schneider which make no attempt at conveying the truth. Steven Schneider RIP. @oceansolutions You should also include that the 'normal' range of CO2 concentration for earth's atmosphere includes concentrations 20 times present. No 'runaway' warming event was associated with this CO2 level, which persisted for centuries. AGW advocates can't explain how CO2 levels ever returned to lower levels. The strongly positive feedback they pretend exists between CO2 and water vapor would prevent CO2 levels ever returning, unless an even stronger negative feedback actually dominates.
