Why everyone has a problem with the doll head???
I am using doll head to try out different updos, techniques and for practice. Every hair dresser use doll heads.
The PROBLEM is her way of straightening.
With this curly you should brush the hair out with a paddle brush first. Then starting at the nape of the neck taking sections all the way up, and straighten the hair with the flat iron by running a teasing comb in front of it. This way the ends wouldn't burn!!!

The hair is really straight but the split ends are too obvious because of how many times you straighten it in one go!
