Yes, I too am sorry that MW didn't get the KY job.
There's nothing wrong with the man who did end up in the booth.
But given the horrific absence of the vital sense of humor in all aspects of American horse racing, Mike would have bailed us out on this score.
I also think very highly of the perfectionist Peter Berry (Mountaineer), who is the gold standard of professionalism.
Heck, I like to listen to MTN races just to be able to hear English spoken properly!

Wrona is a great caller - as a nocal guy, I'm glad we didn't lose him, but CD made a mistake, imho.
Peace Rules is in my top 3 favorites He had to play 2nd fiddle during his 3yo season to Empire Maker with whom he shared the incomprable Robert Frankel as conditioner. I truly believe Frankel used him detrimentally (a rabbit) in the KD to help EM. Peace Rules was the fiercest competitor I have ever seen, if you ever get a chance to see the Suburban, at 1 and 1/4, it's his "peace" de resistance

@slewofdamascus Thank you for the reminder about the '04 Suburban. I had the video on my old computer, but never did post it, so it was awesome to watch it again. CD's announcer is pretty good, but MW would have been a better choice, IMHO.

Great race by Funny Cide just to hang in there, 2nd or 3rd.
Say, Mike Pike, I had WE in the 2002 Derby, big time. Greatest day of my life!

@7855waldo I agree. Mr. Wrona is a racecaller that I think would have been a terrific replacement at Churchill Downs, or anywhere for that matter.
He is a very talented fellow.
