DWM works perfectly under X11, or for that matter even under XQuartz. The best part is that you can run osx gui apps from within, i.e. it won't tile them and would take you out of X11. This makes it really nice for keeping distraction low. If you wish to get rid of it part-time, use cmd+h to hide or 4 finger pinch to switch apps. other than cmd+q, cmd+h I haven't seen spaces hotkeys work. Fn keys function exactly as inteded on osx.

I just found out about X11 today and have nooo clue how to use it but i would love to. Do you think you could give me a simple as hell tutorial or run through of some sort to show me how you set this up? It would be greatly appreciated.
