Whilst working as a photojournalist in Afghanistan, John D McHugh was nearly killed after being shot in the chest by insurgents. From that moment onwards he wanted to tell the story of the US troops that saved his life, the Afghan army that will one day be their replacements and the everyday survival that has become their lives. This documentary shows a rarely-seen side of war, through the camera of a journalist embedded in Afghanistan.

The problem is that the Afghanis don't trust their leader, Hamid Karzai. They have good reason not to; he is an opportunist at best. And the US represents him and his interests, and that's why we are losing the hearts and minds of the people, and that's why we lose or draw every guerilla war. People in the US think that, in every 3rd-world citizen, is an American just waiting to get out. Even I think that sometimes...

i served in iraq in afghanistan with the us marine infantry...1/6, and i totally feel for the iraqi's and afghani's. We are in their country, i'd be doing the same shit if another country occupied america. shit sucks.
