Very well done. Kudos to the musician who played the great marimba music! 5 stars for that alone!

how much does this cost to make
siryocro 2 years ago
Hi - the prototype cost me a little less than $500 Australian - but it will depend on where you are and local materials. Recently had a customer in the USA said they built theirs for about $300 US - have a look at the website for details.

how long did it take you to make this?

Hi - this instrument took me 5 days pretty flat out. I could probably do it in four but of course I was taking video and photos and notes for the building guide along the way as well which takes up a bit of extra time. Also, I'm fairly practised so I can build faster than a first timer. I generally reccomend people put aside at least a week or three weekends for this particular project - perhaps a little more if you feel like taking it easy.

what did you use to tune the bars?
kcaj48 2 years ago
for this one I simply used a korg digital tuner - like a guitar style tuner. Usually I would use a stroboscope, but I wanted to show that you could do a good job with a cheap alternative. Recently I purchased the strobosoft 2 deluxe software from peterson, and it really is awesome - best tuning tool I've ever used.
