You were lucky no one got injured when the rope snapped. I've seen chains snap once in this way when I was in engineering. can be extremely dangerous when they go, they take no prisoners.

@Bevoin1970 Yes that sound a lot better than work in the cold snow. It was not the rope, it was a bolt on the tractor that broke, then one of the pulleys got another shape...
