MoD FOOTAGE

Royal Air Force aircraft hit seven Main Battle Tanks on Friday 8 April 2011, as part of the UK's continued support for NATO's efforts to protect Libyan civilians and enforce UN Security Council Resolution 1973. As part of a concerted and choreographed day of NATO air strikes, UK aircraft assigned to Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR located and destroyed seven tanks being operated by the pro-Gadaffi forces. The RAF Tornados GR4s, equipped with Paveway IV Bombs and Brimstone missiles, destroyed the tanks on two separate armed reconnaissance missions. In Adjabiya, in the east, the Tornados located and destroyed two tanks which were involved in fighting in the city. The remaining five were located and destroyed near Mistratah, in the west, as they were being readied for transport to the front line. The accompanying video is taken from the Tornado's LITENING targeting pod and shows the destruction of four of the five tanks as they were being loaded on the their transporters. The low collateral effect of the Brimstone missiles used can be seen by the undamaged transporters beside the destroyed tanks.

  • plenty of people are just happy to say oil and turn their heads while civilians are bombarded. Because if Iraq was bad everything in the middle east will be bad forever? The guy who made Restrepo was killed in Libya today by Gaddafi's indiscriminate rockets, just taking photos. Good men simply need to do nothing for evil to triumph.

  • @tombone3 not really...if you seen the babies killed by gaddafi forces and heard stories of mutiliations and rape I wouldnt think you would be so quick to jump to conclusions....world is full of hypocrites but lets make the hypocrites work to help civilians

  • @DJSbarton you look all the same to me

  • @darkomilosevic86 It's the UK......fail :-/

  • the tank was probably retreating - just like the General Belgrano in the Falkland.

This 'conflict' is what happens when you free a stool pidgeon who was blamed for bomibng the Lockerbie Pan-Am jet with the intention of sweeting up Gadaffi to get access to oil pipelines. Trouble is, Gadaffi went back on the deal and the UK certainly show their real colours and how corrupt they are. The UK release a man on 'compassionate grounds' ? NEVER. PERIOD. immoral invasion just like Iraq, Afghanistan etc

  • Open up or i'll shoot!!!

    -Who is it?

    -it's democracy...

-But I don't want you here!!!

    -But we want US here...

  • @3tangle3 What about in Syria, Yemen, Bahrain, most african countires. Just we saw Libya as an "easy" target and we thought Gadaffi would be gone in a month. I hope he stays. If the rebels wanted it that much they woudn't need our help.

  • Notice how at 0:07 the RAF shot a warning shot to make the soldiers run away from the tanks before blowing them up. I think that's a really smart move in all directions!

  • Joke, WTF we doing over there. Oil.
