http://budurl.com/YouTubeDownloader - Eyjafjallajokull volcano eruptions have continued through Monday April 19th and they created a few interesting as well as hazardous conditions. It's been reported since last week that tens of thousands of flights and many passengers across Europe have been disrupted, with many flights being canceled altogether. The delays, cancellations and change in travel plans continues this week, but on Monday the volcanic eruptions produced a "dirty thunderstorm". This occurs as the volcano sends forth a plume of ash with lightning in a "mysterious electrical phenomenon."
According to scientific evidence collected back in 2006, an Alaskan volcano's eruption produced a big electrical charge which is what appears to be going on with Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland. Usually volcanic eruptions produce a lot of water as well which can add to the electrical thunderstorms taking place above the volcano. Scientists believe that the electric charges are generated when rock fragments, ash, and ice particles in the plume collide to produce static charges, according to a National Geographic report in 2007.
This may be just the third example that has been seen, although it's probable that many more dirty thunderstorms have happened throughout history. Other known instances of these electrical storms in volcanic eruptions occurred at the Chaiten Volcano in Chile and Alaska's Mount Augustine volcano.
MSNBC has published a series of pictures to give a glimpse of the Volcano in Iceland and its dirty thunderstorm. View the MSNBC slideshow here. Also in the video below you can see the ash cloud being produced over Europe in video footage that was released of Eyjafajallajokull volcano eruption in Iceland. - http://budurl.com/YouTubeDownloader
Misleading title, was expecting footage of a "dirty thunderstorm".
