FIRST VIDEO: No Sound
CFRN NEWSCAST: "Were now going to our top story tonight, we now have some footage of that firebll that streaked accross the sky late this afternoon.
"Astronomer Allister Ling who lives in SW Edmonton captured this video on a special camera that constantly monitors the sky, you saw that fireball pass in the bottom left corner of the screen. It brightens up quite a bit so if you saw this with your own eyes you could imagine how bright it would be. We have been getting reports that it's a meteor, it amy well be but we still don't have any information about where it landed. We had reports as far as Cold Lake as far as Airdrie and as far as east of Saskatoon. But here's the first video of the fireball in the sky---we'll keep an eye on it."
CTV CALGARY NEWSCAST: "We have some breaking news to tell you about now, were getting reports about a huge fireball that streaked accross the sky. People from Fort Chipewan to Calgary have seen it. Camilla Di Guiseppe. You've talked to RCMP and a man who saw it?"
"Yes I talked to RCMP dispatch and they say they received numerous calls all the way from Lethbridge all the way to northern Alberta. We've also got many calls here. One man said he saw it while driving on Deerfoot. I just got off the phone with Rob Westland. He was on his way home when he saw a bright light in the sky. He said it looked like it was as big as a house.
ROB WETLAND: I was watching it for a few seconds or so and it seemed to burst into a great big ball of flame, it only took a matter of seconds or two to actually see it fall.
CTV NEWS CALGARY: Westland adds it looked like the ball hit the ground north of Patricia, and his wife heard a muffled "boom" in the distance. We also talked to Allan Dyer at the Telus World of Science, he said it's too soon to speculate. He doesn't think it's part of the meteor shower going on now. University researchers are looking at numerous cameras around the city so it will take a while to look at the photos and figure out what it was.
Meanwhile we don't know what it was but if you were able to snap any photos or get a video, you can send your videos to us by going to our website "Ctvcalgary.ca" and click on "My News". Thanks Camilla
The unidentified bright light spotted in Alberta on Thursday the 20th at around 5:30 Pm
