I made a quick and dirty version of a sheet metal bending brake in order to create the shape of some art deco style footlights I was building for a theatre.

  • can you use a steel door hinge for the pivot?

  • @Gusando Sure, I just used the only matching pair of hinges I had laying around.

  • Actually looks really well made...

What sort of bend radius will it do??

  • @AV3NG3R00 The way I had built this let me do 90 degrees. Anything more acute than that I had to take out of the brake and finish by hand.

  • I am looking to make something to bend steel about 1 mm thick, have you tried to bend stuff that thick on your bender, what were the results ?

  • That's a great DIY bender! Could you send me the plan to build one?

    Thanks

  • i have to say it was a cool idea and what u made looks cool but not possile to make a j channel or brick moulding but still nice

  • can you bend where the turn to 90 degrees is a soft rather than sharp turn?

  • Wow. Thanks. That is brilliant.

  • That metal sheet looks like 0.55? Really flimsy looking. Good bender, looks like I'll make one too rather than shelling out $100- for one.
