Just to solve this I looked it up and it says yes chief was in a mission in orbit but he wasn't the first spartan he was a Spartan II and the first were the Spartan I who were a failed experiment and also they were made in order in the spartan2 program so technically he was 117th out of the 300 Spartan II

they then rescue Red team, who have a few new upgrades into MK V. they then attempt to retreat back to Earth to warn UNSC HQ that the Covenant have uncovered Earth's location, and to relay the information Cortana has uncovered from the Oracle at the Halo. hope you guys understand all that. i know its hard for you to take in nformation about the Halo series.

Cortana then takes matters into her own hands after de-coding an artifact from the Forerunners and charts a course for the first Halo. then, after those events, John and Cortana are in a singleship floating through the rubble of the Halo, and they meet up with survivors including Sergeant Johnson, and an ONI spook. they steal a Covenant ship and slip back to Reach, in less than half the time usually taken. they then find that their adventures on Halo took less than a few days to unfold

Red team is sent to the surface to defend Reach. Blue team is sent to a dry dock in orbit to activate the Cole Protocol on remaining ships. James dies when they reach the dry dock, and Linda is severely wounded attempting to draw them from John. John takes Linda to the Pillar.

wow, all of you are wrong. first of all, John was the FIRST Spartan. He was one of the first. The Spartan II program was BASED on Reach. John and the rest of the Spartans were about to take the Pillar of Autumn behind enemy lines. Just before they made the jump however, the Covenant attacked Reach, and John split the force into two teams; Red team and Blue team. Blue team consisted of John, James, and Linda.

JEWC54 your so so wrong lol ofcourse master chief was born he was the first ever freeking spartan, the end of reach is literally days before Halo: CE takes place. The chief was on a mission in orbit above reach with kelly (i think).

Master cheif is in reach!! U meet him in the game when in the final battle u fight along side him, defending the pillar of autumns!!! After that johny (master cheif) goes into cryogenic state! That's when he awakes in the first game :) bam!!

Master chief isnt in this cutscene lol you meet him up later on in the gameme but they call him Johny
