Father Joe's Thanksgiving Day 5k Run/Walk in Balboa Park
Father Joes Villages is a multi-city homeless rehabilitation organization dedicated to addressing the immediate and ongoing needs of underprivileged children, families and individuals who, for various reasons, have found themselves without basic life necessities.
The family of Father Joe's Villages® (FJV) includes the following non-profit entities. FJV provides support services for all the Villages so they can provide care. Services include but are not limited to food service, security, maintenance, property acquisition, human resource, accounting, and general management.
St. Vincent de Paul Village, Inc., a mission-style campus located in the heart of San Diego, is where the "Continuum of Care" was first provided for needy men, women, and children. St. Vincent's offers children's activities, family literacy classes, job skills workshops, career counseling, self-esteem and motivational classes, medical and dental care, and an on-site elementary school. Joan Kroc Center, Bishop Maher Center, Paul Mirabile Center, Village Place and Villa Harvey Mandel.
Marthas Village & Kitchen, Inc at The Dan Dunlap Center in Indio (near Palm Springs, CA) provides housing for 120 guests, including families with children and single women. The center offers educational programs, job training, children's programs and counseling, as well as assistance with job placement and permanent housing. An on-site medical clinic serves clients health care needs. Marthas Village & Kitchen provides 250,000 meals annually to the poor of the Coachella Valley.
Families are given the opportunity to enter Martha's Village & Kitchen and use its programs to return to self-sufficiency.
The Padre Luis Jayme International Outreach Program serves our neighbors in Mexico by providing food, clothing and other supplies to the poor and the sick, and offers aid in times of crisis. As an example, the outreach program provided clean water to the people of Mexico City after a devastating earthquake left 100,000 homeless. Dedicated to the belief "Compassion knows no borders," this effort also welcomes human service providers from across the globe to share the Villages' knowledge.
The National AIDS Foundation, Inc./Josue Homes (three independent living residences) lets those suffering in isolation due to being HIV-positive find a supportive communal living environment. Josue residents learn to persevere through counseling, health services and practicing independent living skills. The Foundation is the largest non-hospice service provider of HIV- and AIDS-related residential services in San Diego County.
A Children's Village Inspired by proven social service technologies, "A Children's Village" will provide a year-round community for 200 children, including siblings, who have been separated from their families. At "A Children's Village", children will breathe sweet country air, hike the rolling hills, play sports in the vast fields and rest beneath the shady oak trees.
Toussaint Academy of the Arts & Sciences For over a decade, the Toussaint Academy of the Arts and Sciences (originally named the Toussaint Teen Center) has served hundreds of teens who have no place else to call home. Located in Downtown San Diego, just a few blocks north of the historic Gaslamp Quarter, the Toussaint Academy continues to thrive as a place where kids learn the skills they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. While residing at the Academy, teens enjoy a rich academic and social curriculum filled with a unique blend of arts and sciences. While they learn basic life skills necessary to succeed as adults, they are given the chance to explore the dreams that will one day allow them to fly.
The Toussaint Youth Villages, Inc. include the Toussaint Academy of the Arts and Sciences (TAAS), a spacious downtown San Diego building providing dormitory-style rooms and life skills programs to 36 teenage runaways and victims of abuse or neglect. While at TAAS, youth attend a county-run high school on the premises. Also part of Toussaint Youth Villages is the 118 acre Flying A Ranch. The youth ranch is located in eastern San Diego County and is currently being developed to provide 200 young people "at risk" of becoming homeless with a safe, nurturing home.
