I was there, I am part of the SkillsUSA team up at the highschool, where they do SuperMileage. This is an amazing program. This is the future of our cars. I hope we get there soon.

there is no inherent advantage in burn and coast so it would be better to find/make a motor that is most efficient at cruise power and run it all the time.
if you have to run on fuel. otherwise battery electric is best.
it's all about optimization. best bearings, highest tire pressure, no oil if possible etc
