A group of Chinese men and women have climbed to the roof of an immigration detention center in Australia to protest decisions about their protection visas. Four other asylum seekers on hunger strike have been hospitalized.
A group of Chinese men and women climbed up to the roof of Villawood Immigration Detention Center near Sydney on Wednesday following the end of a similar protest in the center earlier in the week.
According to local media reports... the men and women are believed to have overstayed their student visas and their application for protection visas were declined by the authorities.
The Villawood Immigration Detention Center is the final stop before authorities expel asylum-seekers whose cases have been declined.
Earlier this week, a Fijian man who was about to be deported threw himself from the building and died. His death sparked a two-day-long stand off between authorities and a group of asylum seekers who demanded the re-consideration of their applications.
That protest ended peacefully after talks with UNHCR officials.
If anyone on this forum believes that we should take in these scum then before you shoot your mouth off consider this. If you say you care and believe in freedom of choice then i say great, how many do you want, that is to stay with you and you pay for everything, I guess you have had a rethink because to clear your consciece you want the rest of us to pay. Well fuck you my choice is not to have them in my country.

@timmymaurice .... dear absolute, ignorant, stupid, moronic, unintelligent, ovine person. I love hearing from people like you because I can teach you things and gives me the opportunity to show you the truth.
If you actually go though all the data on the UNHCR Data, unfortunately it's very difficult to attain and only available to people who have the internet, you will find the truth. The truth is the number of asylum seekers in the Asian Region peaked in 2005.
Hush now, go back to sleep.

Those Chinese are non-violence and concluded the affair peacefully by discussion, Those Chinese didn't behave badly even though they were raised in tough communist China, those guys should be taken from Australia as a sample reward of non-violent strike. Many non-religious Asians are some way soft and lesser anger and on behave compare to others in many incidents. Vote Thumb up if u agree pls.

We will manage. I have cleaned hotel rooms (and toilets) , washed dishes, bussed tables, waited tables, worked in a factory, worked in kitchens, driven a cab, worked construction, drove a cab, yardwork, painting, and I even turned a trick once.

@Gulfporter "iv'e seen nothing particularly horrnedous about detention centres" well i supose since you havent seen anything then it just cant be true. to be honest mate, although they are probably questionable sources, i can see at least 3 videos now, on the right hand side that seem to claim differently. why dont you watch one of them? on the other point, whose going to clean your public toilets and pick your crops for extortionate wages when you wall off your country?

"one of the problems is that detention centres are horrendous."
I've seen nothing particularly horrendous about the detention centers.
"we have benefitted from the exploitation of these people "
Spare me the Howard Zinn routine.

@Gulfporter one of the problems is that detention centres are horrendous. as 'illegals' they get treated like shit. there are plenty of horror stories and people often die during incarceration and on deportation flights. immigration is something that we now realistically have to live with, we have benefitted from the exploitation of these people both in their countries and when they come to our countries. i dont believe in the concept of open borders but i do believe in reform.

God damn it. "Who demanded...." Who demanded? Fuck these people. We have the same problem here, with immigrants "demanding reform" by which they mean "open borders". We are not the refuge to the world. If things keep going this way, The British, Australians, Irish, Swedes, Poles, Dutch, Germans, and probably even the Japanese will have to take refuge in Canada and wall it off.
