I bet you get alot of metal slivers. They hurt alot more than wooden ones. Why is that? The slivers probley don't even bother you by now.I watch you videos & its nice to see a real professional with lots of experience show how things should be done.I am an Automotive Technician by trade & want to learn how to do engine work as well as you someday but you cannot teach experience.I know it will take time.I have a 94 corvette & would like to see some Lt-1 engine work done.Any videos of Lt-1s?Thanks.

John, I know you are a body of knowledge on all this stuff...I wondered about the rod integrity when you take that much off the top? What about the forces on the top arch of the connecting rod, when the rod reaches TDC and BDC during high RPM? I'd be curious about the math of it with that much metal removed.

In this rod you can do the same on the other part or you can practice a hole on the top for lubrication with no problems?
Thanks for your videos : )
MagicMiura 1 year ago
@MagicMiura - Yes, the rod will get a bushing for 18mm pins and then a hole for lubrication. This is about 1/3 of the way done, still have to trapazoide the top and lighten the bottom end.

As allways thank you for charing John!
What is the purpose of all that metal at the top of the rod?
error079 1 year ago
@error079 - It is used as a balance pad, there is also one at the bottom, which comes off next.
