Yes Byakua was going to kill her but that was before he realized it's not about "rules" when you care about someone (Ichigo taught him that).He's more protective over her than anyone else who interacts with her. It seems Byakuya is wrestling: "Do I feel this way because she looks so similar to my deceased wife? Or do I love Rukia for herself?" This pairing looks so much better than the Rukia-Ichigo one.
