The IndyCar community shed tears and shared laughs Sunday in tribute to two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon, who was killed in a multi-car crash last week at Las Vegas. The 87-minute public memorial service was held in Indianapolis. (Oct. 23)

Dan Wheldon has at least finally been given some recognition and respect in his home country. I know, because I'm from his home country. When Dan won his two Indy 500s and the Indycar title, hardly anyone here raised an eyebrow. They were too concerned about the prospect of England's overpaid football flops losing to a team of scaffolders from Darkest Peru in some meaningless friendly. It's about time someone here cared about this wonderful sportsman and person, if only in his hour of departure.
