http://.www.ironkettlebellfitness.com - It's vital that the kettlebell swing be done correctly. Dennis has a client demonstrate the proper swing form after some minor corrections are made.

  • So when putting an instructional video on the internet, why have someone demonstrate who isn't proficient?

  • @b4ds33d2 Because this student is demonstrating some of the issues that others who are learning are having. People can relate and I can teach by showing what imperfect form looks like and how to go about correcting it.

  • I hate to see it, but the weight looks too heavy for him...more practice!

  • @InShapeOnline At the time, he was new to kettlebells so yes, more practice was in order. Don't agree with the weight being to heavy though. The swing is a hip and glute lift and the bell he was using was 16kg. I am of the opinion that for learning the swing, a heavier kettlebell then one would use for some of the other lifts is appropriate because it teaches the athlete to lift with the hips and glutes and not the arms. If the bell is heavy, the athlete is less likely to pull with the arms.

  • not a bad vid but just some constructive criticism, the guy whom is swinging the bell had a few things that didnt look quite right to me, such as at the near top of the swings path his heels are coming off the ground thats a no no, also and i may be wrong but it looks to me like when he swings, its looks as if he's shoulder is pulled in front of him rather than behind and keeping the chest out, im no expert but thought you might like some feedback otherwise cool vid :)

  • @12meor I agree with your criticism. The kid swinging the bell was very new to kettlebells and is a work in progress. The basic form is good however and just needs to be tweaked. He is working on it, trust me.

  • @vaclavjoseph Agreed, I never wear shoes while working out in the gym, but, there are times, especially when outside that I do and this is one of those times. I have addressed the problems with shoes on my blog.

  • I have learned not to wear shoes!
