Rookie Dallas cop tickets woman for driving while not speaking English

A Dallas rookie police officer cited a woman earlier this month for being a non-English speaking driver, police said.

Officer Gary Bromley issued a citation Oct. 2 to 48-year-old Ernestina Mondragon after stopping her for making an illegal U-turn in the 500 block of Easton Road, near East Northwest Highway, according to a copy of the citation.

"That's a charge that does not exist here in the city of Dallas," said department spokesman Sgt. Warren Mitchell. "Although we believe it was a sincere mistake ... there's no excuse for it."

I bet you wouldn't feel the same way if law enforcement made up a new rule that's not on the books and arrested you for it. There is nothing good about police that abuse their authority. Those responsible should be removed from the police force so that they won't be able to harm anyone else...

No, she won't pay this ticket. But 39 people who were cited for the same reason did pay the fine even though it should have been clear when they went to pay that the ticket was invalid. Everyone who paid the fine will be reimbursed, but their money should never have been accepted to begin with. For this to have happened to so many people shows that this is a big problem in that precinct. There are too many people in uniform who feel they have a right to make up their own laws & enforce them.
