Off of the lot it wasn't as fast as the 428 mustang. The engine probably didn't take being tuned for street use well. Having ports the size of tennis balls doesn't really suit a street car very well.

@Ratmouth66 Word has it the Boss 429 topped over 500 hp. It was so far beyond the advertised power im surprised anyone at Ford could tell the insurance companies "375" with a straight face.
