When I use your joule thief charger circuit to charge 12 volt to 12 volt it always fries my transistors, but this one with the bridge rectifier works fine?
My dead battery when hook up to this joule thief charger starts out at 11 volts while yours starts off at 18 volts, mine goes down like yours but I was just wondering if there is a certain voltage like 18 that lets you know if a battery is recoverable or if my 11 volts just means that my battery is just more sulfated then yours?

i guess it would be better to have the coil with 90 turns better than a 22 for charging, right? i noticed that you're using a 12v to charge a dead 12v. does the run batt have to be the voltage u want to get to for the charge batt? i've been running mine off of two AA and got a voltage increase from 7.68 to 8.52 on my lead acid. when the JT was on the charge batt said 10.13v. is this typical for the AA? would increasing the number of turns on the coil up the charging time and voltage? thanks!!

Anyway, Its working great now, and I cant wait to build a sturdy circuit and do some tests.
I have an identical dead battery lets see if I can replicate this.

yeh its all about the coil. gotta have it hooked up right.
How many winds on your coil? wats it drawing?
its a good idea to use a ballast resistor (100ohmor so) in line with the pot, to take the heat off the pot. and a heatsink on the 2n3055.
Record the numbers properly with the charging so we can see wats happening, maybe we can compare results.

It appears you're charging the emitter of the 3055. This is backwards. Is this your intention? Your milti-meter goes negative at 450 volts. Is it possible the transister is functioning as a negister. The transister is not supposed to function that way, but the 2N2222 should. Ohm's law is reversed higher voltage reducing current. Maybe you can try the 2N2222 in the circuit and compare the results.

I did a test today, here are my results:
Run=12.07V Charge=11.04V
Charge for 2hours
Run=11.74V Charge=11.60V
Run Battery dropped = 0.33V
Charge Battery Increased = 0.54V
It was pulling 700mA and created noise and heat as well as charging, the battery holds a load and has come back to life completely

The 2n2222 transister is one of a handfull of NPN's that function as a "Negister" at certain voltages. They begin to function as a tunnel diode and begin to create a negative resistance. Research the "Negister". to find out more about it.

I will look into this negister thing, are there any power transistors that act as a negister??

I managed to build a very simple led flasher with a negister circuit using a 2n2222
still not sure if that is wats happening in that clip tho, but it seems similar
