This gypsy trio was performing outside a cafe (now known as Restaurant Valday ( http://www.valday.com.ua/ ) 100 meters from the famous Potempkin steps in Odessa (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potemkin_steps )in June 1999. The song is Loli Phabay. This song was performed in the Russian movie Tabor ukhodit v nebo (1975) directed by Emil Loteanu. (That wonderful gypsy movie was released in 1976 in the USA with the title Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven).

  • Класс! молодцы))) Тэавэн бахталэ!)))

  • Hello GipsyRussia. What does Te aven bahtale! mean? Thanks.

  • haha, that girl at the end is SO cute!

  • Hello Sidpupwo. Here is how I was able to catch the marvelous expression of that little girl: I was filming these gypsy singers at the terrace of a cafe with my Sony camcorder DCR TRV510 which has a huge LCD 4 inch screen. I turned around and saw this little girl with her brother. I flipped the screen toward her and she probably saw, for the first time in her life, her picture on the screen. She granted me with this expression of a marvelous discovery for her.

  • can somebody tell me the name of the film? or even give me a lind to that old russian gypsy film?

There was also another nice song in it, something with rino or reno or I dont know what...

  • Also search in YouTube for the words Queen of the Gypsies: Rada

You will find an excerpt of that movie.

  • The songs are the creations of the Romany people, a tribe that came from India and spread all over Eastern Europe. Their love and talent for music is legendary.

The movie you are talking of is a mind blowing one called "The Gypsy Camp That Vanished Into The Blue" made in Russian based on a short story by Maksim Gorky called Makar Chudra.

The haunting compilation of traditonal Gypsy music was by Evgenii Doga.
