This is a short video showing our upcoming Cyboid 3D iPod Game running on a standard iPod Video (5.5g)!

We're a tiny startup (as in two people here!) that developed a game called Cyboid 3D over the past few years...

... and here's the usual propaganda:

Cyboid is a high-speed, full 3D, first-person shooter that runs on iPod, mobile phones and GBA.

(We plan to support older generation iPods as well, depending on interest and demand from the gamers out there ... and, no, we won't be supporting the iPod Shuffle!)

Visit our website (www.cyboid.com) for more screenshots and info about Cyboid -- we plan to post more iPod-specific media as we get closer to a release build.

  • BTec... Looks like it could be a composite of video on an ipod. Do you have any better footage FYI, I'd be happy to host higher res/better quality encode if you're worried about space and data transmit charges on your servers/isp.

I think people would be more interested in how you managed to get a game onto an iPod circumventing Apple. THAT may be the bigger story here.

I doubt you'll be as successful as you aspire (no pun intended) trying to distribute this WITHOUT Apple's participation.

  • Thanks for the offer to host -- it's appreciated! -- but since the video's on YouTube, hosting isn't really an issue... unless we get a bill from them, that is!

BTW, the video was taken with a videocamera aimed over my shoulder while playing the game...

... and yes, we'd like the video quality to be better as well, but we're not really sure what to do to improve things?

  • Well, I think iPod controls were just not made for FPS games :)

  • They really weren't...

... but hopefully we've done a pretty good job of making it easy and intuitive (if you're not also trying to record a video at the same time, that is!)

It's also another reason that we're still looking for beta testers as well -- for any suggestions they've got on making the controls easier to use, etc.

  • it should be here a lot of hard hours and hours of work. Just, come on, why another FPS once again ? What about a game based on the ipod control ? (I'v got to admit I'm specialy overbored by the FPS invasion and also I've got not any ipod, hehe). Good luck for your startup, dudes.

  • Thanks for the good luck wishes -- we're hoping that Apple notices us and wants to publish the game, because otherwise we're going to have to "go it alone", which is pretty difficult.

  • i would buy it if it came out =)

  • Read the description before asking questions! These people are still making it

  • If you want to make it big in ipod game development, why don't you try making games for it that would normally require a tilt sensor to play. Apple would definitely pick them up. FPSes look very hard to control with the iPod's standard control method, and many people are getting very tired of them. So, an FPS would just leave you in the dark. Be innovative if you want apple to hear you.

  • Looks sweet! that would be pretty incredible on my GBA.

  • Please tell me where you got this game from, I am a huge fan of cyboid and i am dying to play this game.

So please tell me where and how you got this game on the ipod and how to put it in the ipod. Thank you

  • What I use is an mpeg4 compression at around 512 kbps. Work pretty well.

  • I think the limitations of that game is the lack of controls on the ipod! There is only one axis for turning and you cant look up and down. Think the original doom is more playable than this

  • apple would never pick up on it. how could it gain any commercial appeal if its so unplayable. look through that whole video he doesnt kill anyone and ends up on 17 health

  • Ridiculously unplayable. I would never buy it.

  • I think the idea is very innovative :)
