  • This is NOT a 21 gun salute. It is a 3 round volley by 7 riflemen.

I have been in a military Honor Guard since 2003. We have preformed military rites at over 550 funerals (85 in 2009) for WWII, Korea, Vietnam & Gulf 1 Veterans.

  • THAT WAS NOT A GUN SALUTE - those are RIFLES and they "Fired THREE VOLLEYS" - Gun salutes are fired individually and with ARTILLERY and ONLY the President of HEAD of State is entitled to a 21 Gun Salute!

  • epic fail. nice hands squad leader

  • who really gives a shit if its a three round volley at least the men and women who gave their lives for us and this country deserve a 21 gun salute every damn day. and fuck obama. SEMPER FI

  • 21 gun salute is with field artillery

  • though nowadays rifle party almost always consists of 7 riflemen/women firing 3 rounds each, they actually provide 3 volleys of rifle fire and not a 21 rifle fire salute

  • President, ex-President, and President-elect of the United States - 21 gun (artillery) salute

Vice President of the United States, Secretary Defense, and Secretaries of the Army, Air Force, and Navy - 19 guns (artillery)

  • Commadant of the Marine Corps, Chief of Naval Operations, and the Army and Air Force Chief of Staffs) all rate 17 guns (artillery)

    Three-stars rate 15, two-stars rate 13, and one-stars rate 11

3 rounds fired by 7 riflemen = 21 (gun) rifle fire salute, this is performed for low rank soldiers up to colonels.

  • Full military honors

President, ex-President, and President-elect of the United States - 21 gun salute (artillery) salute.

Vice President of the United States, Secretary Defense, and Secretaries of the Army, Air Force, and Navy all rate 19 guns (artillery) salute.

  • @coltsamurai Name calling will get you no where ...

if you don't know what you're talking about don't post I have been photographing the final honors at Arlington National Cemetery for over 10 years & know the difference between a THREE VOLLEY SALUTE & a GUN SALUTE. Guns ARE Cannons, Howitzers, etc. the weapons & "three volley salute" at graveside are a custom that dates back to the Civil War. where you can have as few as two or as many as eight in the firing party & they fire times
