This is NOT a 21 gun salute. It is a 3 round volley by 7 riflemen.

I have been in a military Honor Guard since 2003. We have preformed military rites at over 550 funerals (85 in 2009) for WWII, Korea, Vietnam & Gulf 1 Veterans.

though nowadays rifle party almost always consists of 7 riflemen/women firing 3 rounds each, they actually provide 3 volleys of rifle fire and not a 21 rifle fire salute

if you don't know what you're talking about don't post I have been photographing the final honors at Arlington National Cemetery for over 10 years & know the difference between a THREE VOLLEY SALUTE & a GUN SALUTE. Guns ARE Cannons, Howitzers, etc. the weapons & "three volley salute" at graveside are a custom that dates back to the Civil War. where you can have as few as two or as many as eight in the firing party & they fire times
