In the third round of the 2008 5A Division I Texas High School Football Playoffs, the 11-1 Allen Eagles (white) faced the 12-0 Odessa Permian Panthers at Texas Stadium. It was Allen's toughest game of the playoffs to that point. Odessa Permian, looking to make it back to their storied glory days, thrived on the legs of running back Sherard Ray, but Allen's top ranked defense made the stops when needed. With only a few minutes remaining, the Panthers were down by 6 points around midfield, facing a 4th and short. The receiver caught the ball near the first down line (a video of this play itself is also on youtube) but Eagle Junior Safety Josh Reed stepped up and knocked the Panther back before he had a chance to advance the ball past the line. Allen won 28-22. Ex-Permian Dallas Cowboys receiver Roy Williams was at the game and congratulated the Eagles in their locker room after the game. The next week at Texas Stadium, Allen beat #1 in the nation Euless Trinity for the Region I finals. In the State Semi-Finals, Allen barely beat the Round Rock Stony Point Tigers at Baylor's Casey Stadium, and won the 2008 5A Div. I State Championship against Fort Bend Hightower in Houston, TX, at Reliant Stadium on December 20, 2008.
