People like Merlin are changing the world as you play xbox while waiting for the next episode of lost! He's not pretending he's interesting... he's trying to help you realize you are, if you would just try.

There was some true value to what he was trying to convey, but I think the major failing here was that he did not try to sell the underlying ideas. He had a captive audience that wanted to be convinced, and he spent a good portion of his time saying, repeatedly, "I suck, these ideas are wrong, I should not be here".

Rambling speech, the self-deprecation is not charming, and I'm sorry, I don't agree--creativity is a talent, not a way of thinking. You either are or aren't creative. If you are, you know it and you know what to do with it. If you're not, you will always be baffled about how to turn it on and "get more" creative. (And by the way, there's nothing wrong with not being creative. We don't all have the same talents and skills.)
