A couple of years ago a team was formed in Cyprus named the Navigators by a successful shipping magnate called Loucas Evripidou. In a short space of time they have dominated the sport on the island and have widened the name by having guest players wear their shirts in international events. Players to have worn one of the ultra stylish Navigator shirts have included World bowler of the year Dominic Barrett and former World Ranking Masters champion and current PBA player Stuart Williams both from England. The Navigator shirts have proved so popular many other big names in the sport have shown their desire to wear one.
The Navigator name will soon become a worldwide global name and brand thanks to some exciting new developments and an announcement is expected soon.
We caught up with the Navigators team creator Loucas Evripidou on our recent visit to the 2nd Galactica Open in Limassol,Cyprus and asked him about the team, why it was formed and what would be happening in the future.
Having met with Loucas it was not hard to see why the team has had so much success in a short space of time, He is very passionate about the sport and wants to promote team play and spirit as well as promote the fundamentals of bowling to a wider area as well as to his home island of Cyprus. He aims to help kids avoid problems on the street with poverty, drugs and bad influences by starting an academy which will help create athetes that can compete with the very best in the sport.
The Academy will fuse two Academies (YBC's) The LBA - Limassol Bowling Association and Galactica Academy together and will use a specially developed Navigators training program designed by World renowned international coach Mario Joseph former international coach of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and creator of the Rollrite proshop team that dominated English bowling in the 1990's. Mario is also responsible for setting Three time European champion Paul Moor on the road to glory as his coach from being a youngster to the present day.
Mario will be joined by two exceptional players and instructors, Costas Kyriakou a respected Cypriot international and domestic champion and Yiannis Stathatos who is a Greek international and European champion. Together they will coach and train around fifty Cypriot youth players aged 5-17 from the basics of bowling right through to ball physics, Matching up equipment and laneplay. In the future it is also planned the Academy will hold seminars and invite top players from the World of bowling to train with the Academy to help in inspire them to follow in their footsteps and put Cyprus on the bowling map. If that was not enough they also plan to send some of their academy students to the United States and Sweden for further coaching at Universities in the two countries.
Hi Mario! wow, such a cool guy. Is he good with balls too?
