Scenes from Sichuan

The video is a compilation of shorts taken whilst traveling through Western Sichuan, China in June 2010. The locations in the film are as follows, Serxu, Xiewu, Tagong and Dege.

The landscape is very beautiful and the Tibetan culture is very rich. Sadly the architecture on the most part is a rather drab concrete mess. But in some parts the traditional methods of construction, along with ancient temples remain.

The caterpillars you see in the film are known locally as Yartsa Gunbu or "summer grass winter worm". The caterpillar is often consumed in tea and is prescribed in traditional medicine to cure cancer. They are collected from the mountain hillsides. Yartsa Gunbu now represent the fastest growing economy in the region, valued weight for weight with gold.

I used a D300s, for the most part mounted on a tripod. The film reflects a learning curve, indeed I only figured out how to fix my exposure when I had already completed my journey, so please excuse the shifts in exposure.
