FRONTAL OFFSET TEST

OVERALL EVALUATION: Good
Structure/safety cage Injury measures Restraints/dummy kinematics
Head/neck Chest Leg/foot, left Leg/foot, right
Good Good Good Good Good Acceptable

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
Test details:

The Volkswagen Passat was redesigned for the 1998 model year.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, its head moved toward the window sill as floor deformation tipped the driver seat toward the door.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

  • @redprojet I guess it was good for 1999...over 10 years ago...

  • this is the 1996 - 2000 model ... the facelift 2001 - 2005 does much better

  • @PrzemekSM in america it came out in 1998

  • Poor passat D:

  • This is 1996 - 2000 passat, not 1999 - 2005

  • yes i am a brit lol... iv never even heard of NHTSA, but i doubt youre lieing so ok

  • @vwolop Since you used the word 'arse' I'm guessing you're a Brit so maybe you are referring to Euro NCAP tests. I was referring to NHTSA testing in which the C4 A6 received 5 stars for both passenger and driver. And yes it is possible that newer cars are not as safe. Simply look at the crash test video of a C4 A6 versus a C5. The C5 clearly has a weaker A pillar.

  • @TheJoePepper lol, you're clearly talking out of you arse, as it was not even possible to get a 5 star rating at that time, and the 1998 A6 only achieved 3 stars, so unless audi made the newer car less safe... which they didn't, i think you'l find your statement is 100% off.

  • @vwolop 1996 A6 got 5 stars, so I think your last statement is off.

  • this model got a 3 star rating, and in the uk was available from 1997-2000, when it was facelifted and packed with more safety equipment whcih gave it a 4 star rating, up until 2005 when the new shape was introduced giving it a 5 star, for a 1997 car, 3 stars was excellent.
