Sam - Rob Paynter Original (read background info)

Sam was written by Rob Paynter for his son. Rob's music is available from iTunes stores. In the many times I doubt the existence of God I think of the following and find reassurance.
My wife and I had been trying to start a family for many years without any success. We were both a bit depressed with the situation and I prayed to God and asked him why - I then opened the Bible, hoping to get an answer to my prayer. I read the end of the book of Ruth, which was of no help, put in my bookmark and closed my Bible.

The next day we had dinner with friends. As we were leaving Dave gave me a slip of paper with a bible reference on it - he said he felt God wanted me to read these verses. When we got home that night I looked up the verses and was surprised to see that my bookmark was on the same page. The night before I had stopped reading when I got to the end of the book of Ruth. The verses Dave gave me were on the same page but in the book of Samuel. I had not read far enough. It is the story of Hannah who wanted desperately to have a child. Her wish is granted."So in the course of time Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son". These verses were reassuring for us but the months went by and still June did not get pregnant.

Several months had gone by and once again I prayed and asked God why it was that we could not start a family and once again I opened the Bible and started reading. It was on the book of Luke that the Bible opened, "But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren; and they were both well along in years". The angel then appears to her husband and a son is promised. Again these verses reassured us that we just had to be patient and wait for God's timing. Imagine our joy after our Lord Howe holiday when we found that June was indeed pregnant.

On the night of the birth I went home and gave thanks to God and once again I pushed my luck and opened my Bible. My eyes fell on the following verse in Chronicles, " The Lord has kept the promise he made", and further down in verse 15, "You have kept your promise to your servant..., with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it - as it is today".
