South Alabama tops UTSA in double overtime, 30-27
Demetre Baker ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries, including the game winner in double overtime, to lift South Alabama to a 30-27 victory at UTSA on Saturday in front of 32,886 fans at the Alamodome.

Baker's first touchdown came from 21 yards out in the third quarter to tie the contest at 17.

The Roadrunners (2-4) had a chance to win it in regulation, but Sean Ianno's 26-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Clifton Crews, which sent the game into overtime.

In the first extra period, Ellis Hill ran for a 1-yard touchdown to put the Jaguars (3-2) up, 24-17, but UTSA answered when Eric Soza found Kam Jones wide open for a 30-yard scoring pass to continue the contest.

Ianno's 43-yard field goal put the Roadrunners ahead, 27-24, but Baker responded with a 25-yard run, his longest of the season, on USA's next play from scrimmage to clinch the win.

Kendall Houston finished with 72 rushing yards and a score on 19 attempts for the Jaguars.

Meanwhile, Soza completed 15-of-22 passes for 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Jones caught five of those for 103, which was his second consecutive outing over the century mark.

  • Nice to see UTSA having a team. That part of the country really needed college football at the D1 level. Im happy for the program, and Coker isnt a bad hire to start a program. Tough loss, but great game by both squads. UTSA had alot of fans there. I wonder what there average Attendance is thus far.
