@reteside ah awesome thanks man. I once found a great song on youtube with a similar sounding instrument (also a Samurai Champloo amv actually) but I lost the video and didn't know how to describe it.

er obviously madlib has worked with mf doom, and some other people. what i meant was he handles his career like an old-school jazz musician. which is weird, and probably extremely frustrating, to a lot of people, since he does hip hop beats. but it's sort of a philsophical statement of something, and admirable therefore. the "africa" album he did recently had three or four unbelievable beats on it. i had it playing on repeat for weeks.

@Lividify weridly enough, that is actually the japanese banjo (on madlib's sampler). i think it's called "gokumen" or something. i used to have a 50$ casio in 1989 and for some reason they had that in the 99 instruments that it gave you had to choose from.
