Ride on top of the section...it is hard to hear his part in the midst of the other saxes...that is all.

..so rare on "youtube" About the higher note of a chord, of course we hear first, so the leader have not to play louder; and the higher note plays the melody, more logical and easier to identifie. "Art" is difficult, you writte the best as possible, you rehears several months, with great professional musicians, and public has always something clever to say for being better. Frank Sinatra sang :"That's life, that's what all the people say..., driving high in april, shut down in may..".

oh trust me i feel that same way you did my lead sax physically couldnt play louder then the rest of us(me on bari =) ) but that didnt make him a bad leader of the section thats just the way most people figure out how to play it - every band is different with a different feel and different way that works for them
i think he is regarding to the fact that the lead alto is meant to be on top of the section and needs to lead the section most people do this by playing louder and "out" more then the rest

Yes , I thought so. Sincerly, I couldn't play louder, or i'd have destroyed the sound. My idea is that every sax have to play with the same volume, with a natural mix. When a pianist plays in "block-chords", the highest notes of the chords is not louder; with a horn sections, it is same. For me , the leader brings the phrasing and the effects, mainly the way to play the music.

Nice! Every sax captured "Parker's Mood". Though I feel that the lead alto could come out more and the bari could back off just a little...but overall it's great!
